Sculpture

While one sculptor is in the ceramics studio, another is in the video editing room—and this is exactly how we like it. Our curriculum ensures that you receive focused training in sculpture as well as broad exposure to complementary arts. Nearly half the courses required for graduation are electives that can be taken throughout the School of Art + Design. You will also complete one graduate seminar and a variety studio courses in sculpture. Our courses are led by supportive, accessible, and accomplished faculty members who are committed to working closely with you as you articulate and pursue your individual goals. You will also have the opportunity to interact with the many visiting artists—in sculpture as well as other media—who come to the School of Art + Design each semester.
The MFA program is not for the novice. We offer rigorous training to adept sculptors interested in teaching in higher education or pursuing a career as a self-sustaining artist. We accept highly motivated, energetic, and disciplined candidates with strong backgrounds in sculpture. You should expect to spend two-to-three years in the program, depending on maturity and productivity. Prior to graduation, your work will be included in the annual MFA exhibition. In addition, you’ll produce documentation of creative work (slide, video, or disk) and a written statement of your artistic position.
