Connect to Art-File1
Art+Design supplies the
Art-File1 server for use by registered students, faculty, and staff. The server is accessible from any location in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign domain. Remote (off-campus) access is available for any operating system. How much space do I get?
Space limitations on folders are listed below. Increases can be made on a per-request basis; contact staff in room 314 for more information.
- Student Private Folders (graduates and undergraduates): 250MB
- Faculty and Staff Private Folders: 1GB
- Course Folders: 5GB
SCRATCH folder (5GB limit) for temporary storage or file sharing.How do I login to Art-file1?
Using MacOS X
- If you are off-campus, you must first login to the VPN which will make you a part of the campus network. If you are on-campus but connecting wirelessly, you should also login to the VPN.
- Copy the following URL by selecting it and pressing Command-C:
afp://file1.art.uiuc.edu/Data In the Finder, select the Go menu and then select Connect to Server.... Paste the URL above into the top line of the Connect to Server window by pressing Command-V.- Optionally, you may click the + symbol if you would like to add server this to your Favorites list.
- Press Connect and you'll be prompted to enter your netID and your Active Directory/CITES password. Login and click OK. If you do not have an Active Directory/CITES password, or you need to reset your password, visit the password reset webpage.
- The Data volume will show up on the desktop.
- To log out, drag the Data icon to the trash can in the Dock.
Using Microsoft Windows XP/2000
- Double-click the My Network Places icon on the desktop.
- On the left side of the window which appears click "Add a network place".
- In the Add Network Place Wizard window click "Next".
- Click "Choose another network location" and then click "Next".
- Type in
https://file1.art.uiuc.edu/webaccessand click "Next". - Enter
uiuc\followed immediately by your netID in the login field. Enter your Active Directory/CITES password in the password field and click "OK". If you do not have an Active Directory/CITES password, or you need to reset your password, visit the password reset webpage. - Type in a name for this server that means something to you. Click "Next".
- Click "Finish".
- To log out, double-click the My Network Places icon on the desktop, right-click on the icon for the network place you added, and select "Delete" to send that icon to the trash. Then either empty the trash (by right-clicking on the trash and picking "Empty Trash") or open the trash and delete the network place icon you added.
Using Microsoft Windows Vista
- Double-click the "Computer" icon on the desktop.
- Click "Map network drive" near the top of the window which appears.
- Type in
https://file1.art.uiuc.edu/webaccessand click "Finish". - Enter
uiuc\followed immediately by your netID in the login field. Enter your Active Directory/CITES password in the password field and click "OK". If you do not have an Active Directory/CITES password, or you need to reset your password, visit the password reset webpage. - To log off, double-click the Computer icon on the desktop, right-click on the icon for the network drive you added, and select "Disconnect".
