LIBRARIES


As a student in the School of Art + Design you'll have access to one of the nation's most prestigious library systems. Composed of more than 40 departmental units, the library is the largest public university library on earth. It's also the third largest public library in America, behind only those at Harvard and Yale. Within the library walls you can find everything from an esteemed collection on Renaissance music to the personal papers of John Milton, Marcel Proust, H.G. Wells, and Carl Sandburg. In total, the library holds more than nine million volumes, more than 90,000 serial titles, and more than six million manuscripts, maps, slides, audio tapes, microforms, DVDs, videotapes, laser discs, and other non-print material. If there happens to be something you can't find on the shelves, you can take advantage of the library's thorough online database selection and extensive interlibrary loan program.

The Ricker Library of Architecture and Art

The Ricker Library of Architecture and Art is an extensive collection of more than 120,000 volumes, 35,000 microforms, 33,000 serials, and a wide selection of videos.

The Education and Social Science Library

The Education and Social Science Library contains nearly 150,000 volumes, 556,000 microforms, and 2,000 serials.

The Communications Library

The Communications Library is home to more than 16,000 volumes, 300 journals, 30 newspapers, and 400 videos, including books on graphic communications in popular culture and two of the world's largest collections of print advertisements.

City Planning and Landscape Architecture Library

Among the most interdisciplinary libraries on campus, the City Planning and Landscape Architecture Library houses more than 20,000 volumes, an ever-expanding collection of monographs, and academic periodicals focused on subjects including architecture and landscape design.
