Phillips Book Prize

Designed to foster new scholarship on modern art, a juried Phillips Book Prize is awarded annually to a promising scholar for publication of a first book. The author receives $5,000, and in addition to publication of the selected manuscript, will have an opportunity to present their work at the museum. These first books will be published by a major university press as part of a series supported in part by The Phillips Collection Center for the Study of Modern Art.

Academic Symposia

2007-2008 Series: Museum Pedagody

Drawing together experts from many fields--art historians, scientists, critics, philosophers, historians, artists, educators--the Center organizes one public research symposium each year on a topic related to the broader understanding of visual expression in modern art as well as issues pertinent to museums or collecting.

A counterpart to the Phillips Collection's symposium will be scheduled for a later date at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and selected papers from both symposia will be published jointly by the museum and the university.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program

The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, through its Center for the Study of Modern Art, in collaboration with the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, announces two new full-time post-doctoral fellowships at the Phillips for the 2007-2008 academic year with a start date of August 16, 2007.  The fellowships will support research on topics in American or European art from 1880 to the present, including photography.  Preference will be given to projects that focus on subjects related to the scope of the Phillips Collection's areas of collecting.
